Generative AI and copyright: legal risks during training and content generation

This review analyses key legal issues arising at the intersection of copyright and generative artificial intelligence (AI).

It focuses on two main sets of legal risks: for AI developers during the model training stage and for users during the content generation stage.

The purpose of the review is to examine two narrow yet critically important stages: the input of data into the AI model (for training) and the output of data from the model (during generation).

This material has been prepared taking into account current regulations and emerging international practices and can be used in assessing the legal risks of developing and operating generative AI.
